Topic: OT Zojirushi's new rice cooker (3 msgs / 55 lines)
1) From: Brian Kamnetz
There has been a fair amount of interest on this list on Zojirushi
products, including rice cookers. A new, pressurized rice cooker has
been or is about to be released. It's quite a lot more expensive than
other models. That probably is because it is a pressure cooker that
achieves higher pressure at lower temps with a pump. There is more
info here:http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20070830/138516/Brian

Looks like my wife will be looking to get a new cooker soon. She has the
top of the line now but once she reads this article I am sure it will be
time for an upgrade. I guess somebody close to us is going to be getting an
Induction model second hand soon if I can find one for her birthday.

According to their specs, the pump raises the internal pressure during the
initial warming stage to 1.15 atm or a 2.2 psi boost at sea level.
These things seem to be in the $1,000+ range. (~Y100,000 for the NP-LS18
rice cooker.)
Maybe that's not so bad, but it makes me shudder to think of all those
gizmos operating at elevated temperatures when it's actually steaming...
