Topic: Slightly OT--coffeehouses with live music (or house (2 msgs / 53 lines)
1) From: Sandy Andina
Saturday morning Andina & Rich (an eclectic Americana folk/country/old
standards/comedy duo consisting of Stephen Lee Rich and me) are
hitting the road for the Coffeyville (KS) Humanities Project, where
we'll be Artists in Residence the week of Feb. 9-13 (nursing homes,
senior centers, food pantries, community college and Caney, KS Jr-Sr
High). We will then head for Memphis, where starting Feb. 17 we'll be
at the annual int'l Folk Alliance conference (showcasing and
schmoozing as well as chairing and attending FA Regional Leaders',
Board, and Amer. Fed. of Musicians' Local 1000 Exec. Bd. and
Membership meetings). There is an outside chance we will be playing a
veterans' home or school gig in Memphis on the 16th but haven't heard
back.
Our route from Coffeyville to Memphis will take us down to Tulsa and
across northern Arkansas. Anyone here know of any coffeehouses along
the way that feature live music (pass-the-hat or even open mic is
fine), or someone willing to host a house concert? (We can find our
own lodging, so don't worry about having to put us up). We'd expected
to do some Borders gigs, but they're cutting back on live music these
days (even though they don't even pass the hat, much less pay the
artists, they still feel the squeeze from ASCAP/BMI--to which private
house concerts and small church coffeehouses are not subject).
Even if we don't gig between the two events, if anyone who lives
enroute wants to meet us on the road for some good joe.......

Sandy,
My sister and her family live in Tulsa, so I will ask. Since my 13
year old nephew is a budding performer, he's likely to come up with
some ideas.
cheers,
Scott
