Topic: OT: posting speed (was test) (3 msgs / 71 lines)
1) From: Jeff Kilpatrick
Good question.
Sorry to rehash a topic that came up in a different form a couple weeks ago,
but it seems that the jeffs' messages are hopelessly irrelevant by the time
they appear here (for example, I think I was the first to reply to the Mac
help question, but it sat in the moderation queue all weekend). How long
does the moderation for new users last?
Thanks,

Well, the list just vomited a ton of old messages into my lap as I reckon it
does for a lot of people.
It tells me either someone moderates each of these before it comes through (
and they just got around to approving a bunch) OR the mailman system for
managing posts is performing very poorly.
I really think it's the latter.
Have we ever considered moving this to a yahoo group or something like it?
It performs way better...
And, Tom could still maintain control of who signs on and who leaves. Plus,
the web archiving would occur in real time.
If the folks who run the list are interested in thinking about hwo we could
do a migration w/out interrupting service, please let me know! I'd be happy
to help.

I'm not about to weigh in on moving to Yahoo or elsewhere, but I'm also
happy to help out.
I suspect it's actually the moderation as opposed to a slower server. Lots
of messages seem to get sent and distributed between the time I send and
it's actually distributed. It's also a little trickier to come up with a
server load scenario that supports big chunks of messages coming through
around the start of the business day in SM land :-)
