2009 Inauguration Photo - SUPER HI-DEF
This is absolutely the BEST in 'high definition'..... Really amazing.
Zoom in ('double-click' an area) ....and watch it focus.
Then zoom some more... and wait for focus.
This picture was taken with a robotic camera and weighs in at 1,474
megapixel. (295 times the standard 5 megapixel camera) It was a Canon that
pulled together over 200 individual shots. Each zoom in takes a second to
focus ...and then you can see some amazing reactions.
Bonus points if you find Yo-Yo Ma .... taking a picture with his iPhone.http://gigapan.org/viewGigapanFullscreen.php?auth3ef14483ee899496648c2b4b06233cNotice: This e-mail message, together with any attachments, contains

Wow, Barry - I've seen that photo several times - but I didn't realize you
could zoom up close and see such detail! So cool!!
Part of me wished I could be there - but I can't take even normal-sized
crowds (not to mention my health isn't up for it).
Great we have the technology to help the rest of us experience the moment!
Thanks for posting this...

Good question! I saw him when I first looked at the photo earlier - now I
lost him! (no wonder...)
As I remember, then President Elect Obama had to turn around to watch them
perform - so I assume he is behind him - but I still can't find him.

Unbelievable! Could almost read the music on the Marine Band's

Lynne,
THANKS - I found him! Your clue 'Obama had to turn around' was what I needed.
Find the lamp post just above and to the left of the red drape up
behind Obama. Yo-Yo is just to the left of the lamp.

Thanks, Dave - finally found Yo Yo Ma and Isaac Perlman.

What an amazing day it was - if anyone happens to know what they were
playing (it was *amazing*), could pass to us? I'd like to get the recording.

Barry, I counted 39 cameras/ big lenses in the near field, with nearly the
same scene or field of view as your posted image. Then I inadvertently
scrolled in...
Where I had just seen several tripod legs on the oposite side were now
camera nests with dozens more cameras and not a few Thermoses! I quit trying
to count at 85 probables. No Airpots- guess they didn't get the word.
Woe to the guy under the bleachers if the photogs each drank a few liters of
hot coffee that morning.
I wonder how many photos and transparencies were processed from SE Asia GI's
by the Kodak Labs on Kapiolani Blvd in Honolulu, HI.
One could start a UFO or Nessie tradition with all of the shots I got of
hooded Cobras, Pythons and incredibly colorful snakes.
The chickens kept tethered near the hut were not exactly family pets...
Cheers, Mabuhay and Magandang Tanghali -RayO, aka Opa!

Lynne,
It was a new composition by John WIlliams. Can't recall the specific name of it, though.
Despite being a "new" composition, there were a lot of elements from Copeland's Appalachian Spring in it.I especially
recognized the old Quaker tune that I grew up singing as "Lord of the Dance" in church.

Simple Gifts is a tune best left simple. It always annoys me every
time I hear a grand complicated reinterpretation of it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Gifts'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.
A local folk group called "Clam Chowder" did an absolutely amazing a
capella rendition of that tune, but even they were not immune from
leaving well enough alone, and added a second verse. They actually
did a decent job of it:
(2nd verse written by Kathy Sobansky)
tis a gift to be simple,
'Tis a gift to be free,
For the proud are cast down deeper than the sea,
The first shall be last and the last shall be first,
And the meek at last shall receive the earth.

Yes - they included "Lord of the Dance..."
[ha - I thought it was an Irish tune - my ex is Irish and my son strongly
identifies w/his Irish heritage]
I'll look up Copeland Appalachian Spring...
Hopefully, they'll make the tune available...if they haven't already - no
time to steal from my assignments...which reminds me - have to get back to
work! (working on Flash right now..)

It's my understanding that what what we heard on TV was actually
pre-recorded because of the difficulty of intonation in those weather
conditions. They played, but the transmitted sound was
pre-recorded.
As a former musician, it makes my fingers hurt to think about playing
in those conditions!
I'm sure the wind players in the Marine band had frozen chops before
the finished.
I can't imagine taking a good bassoon out in that weather!

Also read the same thing. Some people were complaining about it (!) - I'm
not musical at all (my music ability would be, say, on par with Dave Barry:http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/dave-barry/v-fullstory/story/865435.html
But doesn't take much to understand not being able to play live in that
weather!
Bob - terrific that you were able to play in parades for Kennedy and
Eisenhower (which, I am sure, was *not *on par with Dave Barry...)!
