Topic: Update on 600 gr water add, was bad tasting beans (40 lines)
1) From: peterz
Today I weighed out 100 Gr of the 600 Gr that I had added 100 Gr of
water to, and roasted them to just into 2nd crack.
There was a first crack, where I expected, but not many beans cracked,
so it seamed. And the batch reached 2nd crack, where I expected it would
with my extremely modified P1.
The beans were not all shiny, and they had attained a nice roasted bean
size.
Well, most of them had gone back to a normal bean size while sitting in
that zip lock baggie a 70% humidity for a couple of days.
Ground enough for a mug, and brewed it in my french press.
Wow, best coffee I have had in days, although it was not as good as I
remember.
The taste has deteriorated, but it is good anyway. There is enough left
over for drip brew in the morning.
Just placed an order for an 8# sampler from Tom and Maria, and 2# each
of something I had never tried.
Keeping my office at 50% humidity now, and checking the humidity of my
bags of stash.
They should go up a bit.
Now they are about 37%.
The way I measure is I put the outside humidity/temperature sensor in
the bag to be tested, and close the bag and close the drawer.
It is amazing to me that this seems to work.
How much can you trust a $28.00 K-Mart humidity temperature device?
Dunno, it just shows changes pretty easily though, and my stash is
getting less dry.
Now I have a 12 foot by 12 foot by 8 foot coolerator :)
Thanks for all the help and advice,
PeterZ
