Hello all! I've been lurking on the list for about a month and
thought it was about time to introduce myself. I've been roasting for
about 6 weeks. My journey to home roasting has been an incremental
process of many years. When I was in grad school (about 20 years ago)
a friend from Costa Rica would bring back a couple of pounds of coffee
for me every time he went home. The coffee was roasted and finely
ground and very fresh for ground coffee. It was a lighter roast than
I was used to and was bright and creamy. I thought it was the best
coffee I'd ever had! So began my journey...
I still like Costa Rican coffees and prefer FP brewing. I'd like to
have an espresso machine but that purchase is still a long ways in the
future. I'm using an iRoast 2 and also roast on the stovetop.
My wife and I are still trying to figure out exactly how we discovered
Sweet Maria's and home roasting. One Saturday we were both browsing
and arrived (as near as we can remember) at the SM pages at about the
same time. I was looking at the coffee and the roasting machines and
purposed to buy one in the following week. Waiting for the iRoast and
the coffee sampler was like waiting for Christmas Day! It took me a
week or so to figure out how this particular machine roasts (and to
learn that iRoast profiles don't really translate well from one
machine to another) but I've got a couple of profiles that I'm very
happy with (for now). My wife is enjoying the fruits of my research
and so are a number of friends.
I want to thank all the posters to the list: The Homeroast list has
been a boon to my coffee education!

Will,
welcome to the list! Yes, many of us are coffee snobs here. At least
there's a place for us...
thanks for sharing!
