Topic: Coffee Poems (8 msgs / 150 lines)
1) From: Eric Faust
So I have begun doing some writing for Roast Magazine and have become aware
of a great new contest for all the coffee nerds on this list. I thought to
bring it to the list after seeing a poem that MiKe put on Barista Exchange.
It would be great to have a home roaster poem in Roast Magazine. I have seen
them before, let's bring them out.http://www.freeroaster.com/It wouldn't be bad to win an Ambex, although we might kick you off the list
;-)
Best Regards,
Eric Faust

Hi Eric,
Many of us are not employed in the specialty coffee industry. Does that
unequivocally disqualify us?
Thanks.

Doug,Excellent point. Actually it does, sorry. I do work with the editors,
so I will make a plug, so that that rule can maybe change next year. I have
learned things on this list that are well beyond many professionals I know
in the industry. There should be a common ground for extreme hobbiest and
professional. Coffee is about much more than just making money at it. Thanks
for raising a good point.

That's ok, Eric. My wife would have been beside herself when the grand prize
showed up on the front doorstep!

Eric, I saw your post while waiting for a delayed plane, drinking a beer.
Perfect timing for the coffee muse. Here's what spoke:
Bean so little, pearled and green,
Take a jump into my roasting machine
With a grassy waft and a yellowing sight,
You're now heading brownward to first crack, forthright.
You've come so far, oceans you've crossed,
<Snip>
Now in my roaster, the aroma awakens to song,
Delighted, alighted, from sweetmarias.com.
Rumble, rumble, snap, snap, pop,
First crack's alive, the beans how they hop.
Ramp the temperature down, drift it on home,
City-plus, full city, a touch more for tone.
Brown has never had such a texture that coos,
a mottled warm humming of earth-tied hues.
At last, after rest, and a proper grind,
Extracting your essence, perfection I find.

I think it is worth submitting. If you win the roaster you should have a
line from the poem painted on it. Haha, good luck!
