Topic: 1 lb. Hottop roaster? (5 msgs / 125 lines)
1) From: Lex Johnson
Hi:
I emailed the following yesterday to Micheal at Hottop:
"
Hi Micheal:
I was wondering if there is a 1 lb Hottop in the future. I would like to
add a 1 lb drum roaster to my operation –or any other models coming?"
His reply:
"yes, but not yet ready. not that easy to make a product.
Don't have a target date though.
Michael"
'Thought this might be of interest to the group.

Go for it!Aren't the currently-available Hottops about $600?
For that much dough, I could get a 1pound capacity Behmor roaster and
several tanks of 105 octane ethanol fuel. Or a very good grinder...

True enough. However I'd take a 1/2LB capacity HotTop over a 1LB capacity
Behmor any day because the HT has much better profile control. Which is not
to say "for the money" the Behmor isn't a good deal, only saying that once
you've had good profile control nothing less than having good profile
control is acceptable. And the different profiles is the key to making each
bean sing it's song. Just as a good grinder is important so is a good roast,
in fact in order of importance the roast comes first then the grinder.

"...the roast comes first then the grinder."
Chronologically, you're on board with WWV or WWVH.
I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say you'd never know the roast was
any good if the grinder was a you-know-what.
When I first started with a Grindmaster blade grinder then got a clue as to
brewing time and temperature from Tom, it was exasperating to get the Solis
with comical burrs and still feel stuck in the mud. I'd make a change in
this or that facet of the process, and it would achieve no change in the
flavor.
It always felt like I was drifting around the great cup experience but could
never nail it. Karen, my Celtic Critic, was probably thinking "OK, you
whiner," when she said to "go ahead and get the Mahlkönig for $3 Big. Just
hang on to the Bronco, meanwhile."
Had the $$ but decided not to spend it. LU did that for us- the blackguards.

miKe:
Any thoughts on what the specs might look like for a 1 lb Hottop? Electric
or gas? Profile logging?
