ROASTER ALERT Sweet Marias has a one pound roaster on sale for a good
price. Check the SM sale page. If I didn't already have one, I
wouldn't be posting, but buying! The price is right on the one SM is
selling. Don't look if you don't want to be tempted.

I would be interested, but have never heard of Syd & Jerry's. Anyone know
anything about them? I tried looking them up online, but could not find any
information. Tom, do you have a picture or a link to a description?

Look up Coffee Kinetics and you will find much more info. I have never used
the roaster but have some spare parts if anyone wants them. I use the hood
that came with some of them and love it.

Thanks Jeff. I figured that it was somewhere on the SM site, but did not
know the other name for it. It looks a lot like the Sonfressco. While
there is nothing wrong with fluid bed roasters, I still prefer drums.

Right - now called Sonofresco. The name has changed several times...

" I tried looking [Syd & Jerry's coffee roasters] up online, but could not
find any information."
The Sorcerer's Apprentice [Google] returned 31,200 info hits after 0.30
seconds' searching. The factory installations usually have the roaster set
up under an art deco vent hood, the roaster exhaust stack itself extends up
about 3 inches and is wide open.
If you use the flexible tube instead of the open exhaust into a fume hood,
it curtails the air flow almost like sticking a sock in the open stack. The
roasting operation will be completely different with the two different vent
systems.
It might have trouble "lofting" a full one pound roast at the start if the
stack is not wide open.

What a neat setup, McS! Careful- if that's a propane gas cylinder, the gas
has greater density than air, and I don't think there's any of the
el stink-o ethyl mercaptan dissolved in it to identify leaks. It could
accumulate like water in the lower levels until it became apparent...
Egad! My glasses almost hit the deck- I thought I was seeing a couple of
Bird 4300 series rf wattmeters/ SWR meters next to the Variac. Sorry, Not.
