Topic: Meetup at SCAA in Atlanta? Also, (11 msgs / 271 lines)
1) From: Sharon Allsup
(I've been away from the lists for ages due to Life Stuff, but still roast ...)
Are there any plans for a list get-together or social at the SCAA
symposium this week? I'm trying to squeeze in at least
trade-show-wandering time and wanted to see about meeting up, maybe
over dinner? I'm local to Atlanta, living about 35 miles west of
downtown, off of I-20.
Second, and this is really embarrassing to admit ... anyone want an
Estro 410? It was used about a dozen times then just stuck back on a
shelf and forgotten. It's in dire need of TLC, cleaning several years
of shelf-dust, webs, and cathair. Filter included. Pretty much a
crime to do that to a machine and I'm appropriately embarrassed. I
thought we'd given this thing away years ago (the last time it was
found during a cleanup!). I can hand it over to a loving new home if
there is some kind of meetup.
Hope to run into some of you soon!

This is really nice of you Sharon. If it weren't for the fact that I
already had one I'd jump on this offer!
I have an Estro Profi, a similar machine. It is a very easy machine to
work on. Easy access to every component. This'd be a good way for
somebody to get into making espresso.

Sharon,Great offer but I am not going to be at the symposium. I have been
thinking of getting into making espresso (four months into home roasting),
if you have no other offers and are interested I would gladly pay shipping
and handling.
Have fun and let us know what you see at the show.

4) From: Sam49
I'm relatively new to homeroasting, but not to specialty coffee as I've
been drinking about 90-95% or more specialty coffee roasted by local
Baltimore area roasters for about 11 years or so.
Never been big into espresso, nor had a home machine, just had it in
restaurants and on occasion in coffee shops/bars.
So, I'd like a chance to delve into it without the outlay for a decent
machine. I've been reading about Tom's blends, some SO espressos, and
using somewhat less dark roasts - all of which sounds interesting.
How much does this weigh (approximately) so I could figure the shipping
out. I'd expect to pay for that is someone is giving me a decent machine.
So, enter me into the Estro 410 lottery. I do have a Estro grinder I
bought from Starbucks years ago when the store manager introduced me to
SO coffees, the French press, and the burr grinder.
Thanks for considering me,
Sam

Are you willing to ship it? If so throw my name in the lottery. I'd
be happy to pay s/h. I have been keeping my eye out for a good used
first espresso machine.

As far as Atlanta - I will be there and would like to meet if there
is a time and place at the convention. I have been booked up pretty
heavy this time with roasting training classes and some cuppings. But
let me know if there is a time/place scheduled. Seems like most of
the responses here were about the machine!

Well, I help out with the SCAA classes: the Friday Advanced Class and
the Friday "Roasting Challenge" class, which is teams roasting El
Salvador Matalapa using the Diedrich, Probatino Etc.

I wish I were going! Unfortunately, I'm stuck here in chilly, damp, New Jer=
sey!
And a roasting class would be great too.

I will be there on Saturday and Sunday (arriving midday Friday); taking one
of the roasting labs, too. I would love to meet some folks!

11) From: Sharon Allsup
The Estro has a new home with Michael Brown, we're arranging to meet
up at the conference or on-the-road for handoff. Does this count as
"show swag" ? Thanks for all of the interest. I am glad to see this
poor neglected machine get some love. I just wish more of the
respondents were coming to the show so I could meet you!
I'll be sending out an email with my contact information to everyone
who said they were going to the SCAA Expo in Atlanta, or were local
and posted that they might go if there was a meetup. Maybe we can
arrange a meetup between labs, or after. I'm there today (in a couple
of hours), all day tomorrow, maybe Saturday, and likely all day
Sunday.
As soon as the cabinet folks finish up some last-minute measurements,
I'm outta here and off to the show! Right now I have no kitchen at
all. We're in the middle of a house remodel and the kitchen has been
stripped back to the bare walls and floor. It'll be double-drool and
kick-myself material seeing all of the cool setups and things I'll
wish we'd incorporated into our new design.
Thanks again, see you at the show.
