Topic: Help! I think I ruined my Gene Cafe! (49 lines)
1) From: Ken Knott
So yesterday, I did two dumb things... I used more than the usual amount of=
green beans and I accidentally started the run off at 462 instead of 300..=
. =
The end result was a pretty good chaff fire in the chamber at the exahaust =
port. The chaff built up there in pretty good quantity and was smoldering =
fiercely...
Anyway, I shut it down, dumped the beans (burnt my poor finger), and all se=
emed ok outside of a ruined batch.
I just roasted another batch this morning and things did not seem normal. =
I normally go to 300 over 5 minutes. up to 451 over 4 minutes, 462 over two=
minutes, 482 until first crack, back to 462 until done...
Well, this time the temperature did not seem to reach 300 over 5 minutes an=
d it was far short of 451 over the next 4 minutes... =
I pushed forward listening for first crack... the beans did seem suspicous=
ly dark for so early in the roast especially with it being cooler than norm=
al. In any case, at about 15 minutes total, the beans were clearly in seco=
nd crack. Way earlier than normal... that were perspiring oil fiercely... =
 The chamber is coated.
I normally reach 2nd crack around 18 or 19 minutes total and I've never obs=
erved this much oil. The beans were sticking to the glass....
Yet, the temperatures were always lower than normal???
I think I fried a sensor or something in the chaff fire....
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Javaslinger
