Topic: PID'd Gaggia Classic For Sale $450 (2 msgs / 44 lines)
1) From: Jim Wilson
Hi Gang, I'm selling my 10 month old PID'd Gaggia Classic. Robert Harmon (Tex) installed the PID and it's a dual PID controlling both the brew and steam temps. This machine also has the Silvia wand mod
I bought this machine new from Tex. Tex did all the modding before I bought it. Since owning it I have had to install a new TC recently and also a new SSR for the brew circuit. Tex replaced the SSR, I replaced the TC. The TC is installed in the boiler so it reads actually boiler water temps
During the 10 months I have used it I had to replace the OPV once. I made up a brew pressure guage using a brass T, a liquid-filled guage and a valve (to flow water) so I could check brew group pressure (dynamically) and found it off last fall, couldn't adjust the OPV so I replaced the OPV and all was well
I have also replaced the steam valve twice. The steam valve will leak after a bit and cannot be rebuilt so replacement is the way to go. Both the steam valve and the OPV were purchased through Importika (Gaggia USA) and both are $16 parts each
I have meticuously maintained this machine de-calcifying every 90 days w/o fail using powdered citric acid mixed with water dispensed through the water reservour then chased with two tanks of water before using to make espresso
The water I use is RO water I make up (this is a pourover machine) Because this machine is equipped with a 3 way valve (one of the reasons I bought it), I have been backflushing daily including detergent backflushing with Joe Glo then I pull two sink shots before making espresso
This was my first pump espresso machine and along with a Ranchilio MD-50 grinder, I started out making good espresso from day one using both of these machines. Recently I bought an hx espresso machine which is why I am selling the Gaggia Classic
You can write to me off list sh8knj8k or telephone 352-216-9072. FWIW, I emailed sweetmarias to ask for permission to post this machine here. Derek gave me permission to post here but told me to ask those interested to ask questions off list, so I wont repsond to any querries here. Please, ask me about this machine off list or call my mobile phone which is listed above. If you get my voice mail, leave a number and a time to return your call
