Topic: Fwd: Zassenhaus grinder (2 msgs / 49 lines)
1) From: Ross Landrum
Just wanted to pass on a problem I had with a newer Zassenhaus grinder (not
purchased from Tom-sorry but was a gift from my wife). I was using this
mostly for French press and for the first month it was working good, but
then I started having more sediment in my brew. As the weeks passed it
progressed to the point of unusable, even on the coarsest setting there was
very fine to very large particles. I noticed that the burr/shaft had
excessive side to side movement. I discovered after taking the top off the
grinder that the mount/burr stabilizer on the underside was made of plastic
and after just three months of use had deep (1mm+) groves cut into the
sides. The company this was purchased from gave a full refund but could not
provide any information from the manufacture if this piece was used in all
new Zass box grinders. Has anyone seen or heard of this before?
With all that said I am now shopping for an electric grinder for mostly
press and vacuum brewing with a thought of trying espresso in the near
future. I have only been home roasting for four months so any input would
be greatly appreciated.

I seem to remember reading that there were some mod's to fix the
problems caused by the zass plastic parts. That and a recommendation
to go for an older one instead.
