Topic: Ethiopia? (3 msgs / 81 lines)
1) From: Sharon Allsup
I wasn't able to attend the SCAA session on Ethiopia's specialty
coffee crisis ... Was there any useful or new information provided?
What is the Ethiopian government doing? Besides seizing stores and
trying to reassure the world this is all just start-up confusion
transitional bumps everything-will-be-fine-trust-us that is the party
line given to the news media?
The Exposition had a couple of timeslots set aside for
"conversations": a whiteboard outside the room, you'd write a
question next to a table number for a particular timeslot, and people
interested in talking about that question or topic would show up at
that timeslot.
One table's question was simply "ETHIOPIA?!" My immediate thought
was "you and me both, kid". But I wasn't able to make that event,
either.
Just curious if I missed anything ...

2) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
You know, things will work out this year, one way or other, and next
year the kinks will be ironed out more so there is not so much stress
on all sides. Good coffees are being offered, some are making it
through the ECX with identities intact, others might have identity
stripped by the ECX process, but hey, the coffee is still good! I
don't like the delays involved with all this. But Ethiopia has been
one of the origins where great coffees have arrived impossibly late,
so it seems to damage them less (perhaps because Addis Ababa, where
the warehouses are, is at 2355 meters, above where any coffee can
even be grown!)
Believe it or not, we have found a 2008 wet-process offering that is
really stellar, and are listing it this week. It was a super late
shipment so arrived a monht ago. Very odd, and I was suspect, but
when I cupped it I could not believe how it sparkled . Anyway, I am
off to El Salvador in a matter of hours, but Maria is listing it as
soon as it becomes available this week.

Thanks for the update Tom!
Looking forward to that new listing this week, the stash is getting low,

Have a safe trip and post some pics from the road if posible, I love the
commentary.
Cheers!
