Topic: coffee (sort of) in Moscow (8 msgs / 150 lines)

This is probably the most devastating/amusing review I've ever read about a
coffee shop. The writer is a former barista living in Moscow. Read it and
weep or laugh.http://rus-res-rev.ru/RusResRev_files/KofeKhauz.htmHomeroast mailing list

Funny.
There's a new chain based out of Denver called Dazbog Coffee that plays
up the Russian angle, which I always thought was kind of weird - are
Russians known for their coffee? I haven't tried their coffee - I just
walked into one of their stores looking for a small thermos - but I do
have to give them props for allegedly roasting their coffee locally -
not in each store - but at a central location in Denver.

It *does* sound like they did *not* enjoy themselves - especially the
picture of the employee sweeping up outside labeled "employee
collecting ingredients"
Enjoy!

Cringingly Humorous yes. But the writer must be a masochist reveling in his
pain.
"Every time I come here, I feel that I've lost a few days from the end of my
life from the resent and hatred which it creates inside me"
I mean go once and have a terrible experience it's not your fault, ok maybe
go twice to give them a second chance. But "every time I come here", I mean
figure it out, QUIT GOING THERE! Save your coin and brew at home! Or better
yet as a former barista save your coin, beg, borrow or steal some more and
open a quality focused coffee house...

If you check out the rest of his site, he seems to be equally masochistic
about his restaurant choices as he goes back to the same awful ones multiple
times. But, he doesn't seem to think there are any decent restaurants in
all of Moscow - Aussie sensibilities may be at work.

Probably easier done here than in Russia, even after the advent of naked
capitalism there.
Anyone who's ever spent too much time in a *$ or P@@t's trance, just
accepting what they have like a sheep, understands exactly what he means
when he writes "Every time I come here,"
Most of us on the list here are grateful for having made good on will to
snap out of it. You've done us one better, MiKe... you've done the beg,
borrow and steal thing and come out on top!

I was last in Russia about 6 years ago, in St. Petersburg, not Moscow. My
expat friends there begged me to bring them coffee from home as there was
nothing drinkable available then - I took them several pounds of vac packed
homeroast. Russians have traditionally drunk much more tea than coffee
although that may be changing as Starbucks and other American chains make
inroads.
