Now that sounds like fun! A lap every now and then will help you stay
awake too. If I were closer I'd volunteer to help out. Let us know how
it goes.

Sounds like fun. In addition to listed equipment suggest you bring power
strip(s) and a 25' or longer heavy duty (14 or better yet 12 gauge)
extension cord. You may (likely) need to run off multiple circuits with
espresso machine, grinders, hot pots and electric burner. Don't assume
multiple outlets in the same room means multiple circuits and get caught
continually popping a breaker or worse blowing an old style fuse.

Thanks Mike, that's exactly what I did - I brought a power strip and a heavy duty extension cord. Luckily, power was not an issue. I had a great time and people were practically giddy to have good coffee available. I started setting up at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning and was ready to go by 7:30. The race started at 9:00, about 50 runners at the start. Lots of people (runners, crew, volunteers, spectators) wanting coffee as soon as I could get it ready. I just happened to pick up 2 Zojirushi Thermal Gravity Pot Beverage Dispensers for $5 each at the thrift store on Friday - just the thing for serving my Chemex brew. People kept asking me if I have a cafe and were pretty surprised when I said I just have all this stuff in my own kitchen at home. My Salvatore machine performed like a champ. I've never worked in a real coffee shop, but I often make espresso drinks for groups of friends. This was my first experience of pulling shot after shot, for
hours on end, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hot drinks were popular through the morning, then the runners wanted iced lattes. Some guys wanted one every mile when they passed through the barn - they'd throw one back and ask for another to be ready next lap. These guys ran 101 miles each over the 24 hours, so I guess the coffee worked. Everything went fine until about 3:30 a.m. when I didn't notice the water was low in the jug for the espresso machine. The pump wouldn't prime so I just shut it down, worried that I might damage the boiler. I brewed a few pots of drip, filled the Zojirushi and set it out for self serve, and I decided to take a little nap from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. When I got up, I turned the machine back on and the pump drew water just fine so I was back in business. A couple of people were interested in home roasting and I put in a plug for Sweet Maria's. What a great weekend! I've got some photos posted if you want to see what a
horse barn coffee shop looks like :)http://picasaweb.google.com/krisbhatti/NannyGoat24HourRun#From: miKe mcKoffee
