Wow, what a long time away and a long time not =
roasting a thing. I have spent between four and =
six weeks in hospitals, with a break in there =
somewhere, just can't remember when.
I haven't roasted anything for that long. My =
entire stash is getting old, maybe maturing is a =
better word. I am about to roast, a half pound =
at a time, a bean of which origins escape me. It =
is about one pound of beans, from Central =
America, in a cloth bag, but the name of the bean =
fell off or out of the bag. My guess is that it =
is some sort of Costa Rican due to where it was =
stored. All of my beans have been stored at 55° =
F, in the dark. Most of the stash is in sealed =
containers with gas outlet valves.
I am not tossing the stash out, for I trust it to =
be still quite good over what I can buy other =
than at SMs. And, with my meds expenses, I can't =
afford to spend anything right now. So, I am =
home and going to have fun roasting for =
friends. We are applying for disability =
insurance, for I carry a very good policy just =
for that. Plus, there is Social Security =
Disability. My goal is to get approved, then get =
five to six surgeries and another round of chemo =
and then hormonal therapy out of the way. Then, =
off of all disability and working away.
If all goes as planned I hope to roast as much as =
possible, trying new methods, giving many roasts =
to my many friends. Using up the stash so I can =
buy more - and that comes when I am working =
again, for there will be no money for that while =
on disability. I hope to keep in contact with =
the group, for my participation has been spotty =
at best; mostly when home for a few days or at a =
hospital with wireless (and it was even free - =
though for the average hospital stay of $44,000 =
it should have come with a typist. Just my opinion.)
Sorry that I rambled and went off topic a bit, =
but I am so excited to be home for a while. The =
rest of my treatments should be local and, if the =
two disability policies actually are approved as =
expected, (for I did not bump up one word on any =
of the dozens of sheets I filled out or the =
interviews I have had) I can be back at work, =
opening my company back up in a few years. I am =
so damn lucky. And, I count this group in that =
crowd, for while I didn't always have the =
strength to write, I did read the posts as often =
as possible. This is some group. Thank you all for all you have shared.
All the best,
Stephen =

Stephen,
Welcome back but take it slow and easy. Do what gives you joy and =
strength but don't overdo. We want you around for a long, long time. =
I doubt your stash has gone south--I think it is just nicely aging. If =
at first SSD turns you down, keep applying. You'll be approved.

Stephen,
Welcome back, and I wish you a good and speedy recovery.
Your beans should handle the six weeks with no problem. I have =
roasted beans that were over a year old and they still tasted fine.
