Topic: Hot Top up in Flames (22 lines)
1) From: Jim Wilkins
Thanks for the notes of sympathy. I've started cleaning up. I've removed the
drum, cooling tray and front housing in hopes of salvaging. They will make
good spares if/when I get another Hot Top.
As to the cause - I don't know. This was the 5th roast since I took the
roaster apart and cleaned and removed any carbon. The filter was replaced
during the clean-up. Chaff tray was empty at the start of the roast. Hot
spot for the fire seems to be the vertical wall that separates the control
wiring and the drop chute. That doesn't help much (in my opinion) but I do
find it curious that the fire started while the beans were in the drum. Half
of the beans had fallen into the tray and half remained in the drum. This
was an old analog model and the roast set point was the 4th step.
