Topic: Descaling the QiuckMill Alexia at home? (4 msgs / 85 lines)
1) From: Rbt Tut
would the Alexia which is not a HX or dual boiler machine qualify as a
similar descaling at home as the Sylvia?
I plan to upgrade to this machine w a PID very very soon!

RT,
Although the description of the Alexia (Chris Coffee site) doesn't
specifically say HX, the operative phrase is "Thermo Siphon
circulation". This is a description of the brew circuit plumbing for
the E-61 group normally used when describing HX machines, it may be a
non-traditional HX arrangement (I doubt). IOW I believe the machine is
a HX type.
I don't have any experience with this particular machine so I would
suggest a phone call to Chris Coffee for clarification and an answer
to your question.
In the interest of my continuing education, please post the info after
talking to them.

The Alexia was designed for the straight shot purist and is single boiler
dual use, not HX. You must change boiler pressure/temp to steam just like
Missy. E61 group can and is used with single boiler dual use and double
boilers too not just HX. (Though original Faema E61 was an HX) "Thermo
Siphon Circulation" just refers to the brew boiler temp water circulating
through the group, regardless of brew water configuration. And actually the
E61 group doesn't perform as well idle temp wise with single or dual boiler
(same thing from brew water perspective) always being under temp compared to
well tuned HX which can be close to spot on. Makes sense, the group was
designed to work with HX over heated water in the first place.
Descaling would be very straight forward on the Alexia.

miKe,
I found a picture of the internals and see what you mean. I stand corrected.
