Perhaps Mike will add this sign to his shop.
*Only Irish coffee provides in a single
glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.*

Barry,
I used to joke about the four college food groups: Grease, starch,
coffee, and beer.

To me health food is defined as anything you eat before it's expiration
date.

Expiration dates can be scary and highly deceiving! Last night after closing
the café I spent 2 hours working with a new potential wholesale account.
"Starting Grounds" Church and Café, believe it or not. Currently café o=
pen 2
nights a week. I won't go into all the gory details other than first pull a
10sec gusher. I spent a fair bit of time attempting to dial in the shots (on
a POC La San Marco 3grp and grinder I despise - Rossi 45 - throws terribly
to the left) and finally got them about as good as I could. In fact the
shots tasted virtually exactly like the ground coffee smelled. Which is as
it should and wasn't good! I asked and they didn't know the roast date or
how long it'd been in the hopper. There's a partial 5# bag of Seattle's
Worst (owned by Charbucks) on the shelf, they looked for the roast date and
read off the "Best If Used By Date". (my reading glasses were out in my rig)
I heard June 9th and thought no wonder, then I heard 2010 and though YOU'VE
GOT TO BE STONED! I'd brought a couple bags of both my Delirium and D'Spro
blends for them to test in a few days (roasted two days before) but gave up
on the Seattle's Worst and put the 2 day rested D'Spro in the grinder. While
the shots weren't as I knew they should being so young from roast, still
light years better than the "unexpired" crap they were using...
I won't mention the seemingly even older and fouler decaf they were
pulling..(AND SERVING!!!) First pull not a 10sec gusher, more like 5...
It's gonna be a long hard road getting them up to any kind of quality
standards and practices...but they're willing to learn, and that's what
matters.

Is that the only reason you despise it, or are there others?
I'd appreciate an opinion or two from someone with far greater depth
of experience with grinders than my own.
(picked up a used RR45 for $100 in '94 or so, and it's been my main
grind since)

Good Work miKe,
I hate to see my roasts that I work so hard to come up with get abused and
used in the worst way. The time your spending with them is sooo worth it. I
look forward to your comments on what they think of the taste difference
from the old bilge cleaner they were drinking next to your roasts.

This particular Rossi yes, it's feet are missing so it slides with even
light thwack! Regardless, the bad left throw makes it virtually impossible
to achieve good PF distribution without extra grooming steps. My Mazzers
(Majors and SJ's with snozola mods, which might be able to adapt to a Rossi)
grind into PF making nice centered slight mound, light down tap (or double
down with bigger mound for over dose) and straight to tamp... Don't usually
need to Stockfleth anymore.

Okay, so your beef is with the particular unit. Is it doserless, or is
it a problem with the doser? I have a doser, which breaks up the
clumps, and gets me decent distribution, but then again, I have
nothing to compare it to. I guess I could see it throwing to the left,
based on the way the doser is configured.
