Topic: IMV in my Behmor (7 msgs / 147 lines)
1) From: Ira
So I decide to roast up 12 ounces of the IMV to see if I can finally
get it to come out special, in the past it's been good, but not good
enough I cared. Today I did 2:45 on P3 and then OFF followed by 1lb
P2 C. It hit first crack right at 12:50 which is a few seconds before
the temperature. and I stopped it about 30 seconds later.
Stupidly I'd been walking around watching other things at the same
time. Never for more than a very short while and never forgetting the
roasting coffee, but I thought the first cracks sounded odd and
looking through the window the coffee looked darker than expected so
I stopped it only to later discover that I'd stopped it after the
first few cracks of what was really first, well before it was done.
Oops! Second time I did 1 lb P5 and again stopped it just as it
started to crack. No clue what you'd actually call first crack on a
second roast.
Anyway, it looked darker than I wanted but not burnt so I made a cup
to try. First clue was the lovely smell of fruit when grinding and
while I expect more to come in a day or 2 it's got that wonderful
taste of blueberry that alluded me the last few roasts and caused me
to set it aside for a few months.
Maybe next time I'll get it right!

Sounds like you got it "right" this time !
Congrats.
I roast it on 1 lb. P2 until first crack starts and then hit cool, coasts
into C+ every time.
I bought a fiver when it was available and roast a 1/2 lb. in the Behmor
every month or so to have that nice fruit bomb coffee as a change of pace.
Enjoy!

I had roasted it on P2 always in the past, but probably took it to
far into first. Do you know where in the roast cycle first usually
starts and are you roasting 1lb on the 1lb setting??

I've always roasted 1/2 lb. batches, tried larger batch sizes when I first
got the Behmor, well over a year ago, and had too many under roasted
batches, switched to 1/2 lb. and never looked back ;-)
It's been over a month since my last IMV and I want to say 1st C was around
10 minutes. I'm planning on roasting tomorrow morning as it has been in the
high 90's here in Nor Cal and it's no fun to roast outside when it's that
hot. I'll do a batch of IMV first thing and will keeps notes if you'd like.
Cheers!

Ira-
Woke up at 5:45 am to a thunder storm, very unusual for the San Francisco
area. We have had rain off and on this morning, so much for an early
roasting session. Going to give it a shot this afternoon when this mess
blows through.
Did start the day with a vac pot of C+ India Mysore nuggets, very nutty and
smooth, yum.

Ira-
Just finished the afternoon roasting session, it was so windy I set up the
Behmor in the kitchen and did five different roasts. The IMV was first up on
the dance card. I weighed out 8 oz. and used P1 A which show 18:00 on the
clock. First crack started with 6:15 showing on the clock or 9:45 into the
roast. I let it run until 5:00 was left on the clock or a total roast time
of 13:00 minutes. It cruised into a very nice C+ or so I figure. I put the
cooled beans into a lined craft paper bag and just gave it a sniff, nothing
but strawberry, cherry and vanilla, just as Tom describes it in his review.
I can't wait to give it another days rest to really let the flavors develop.
This years crop seems to be more strawberry and less blueberry like last
years haul.
Cheers,
