Topic: My virtuoso is sick! (4 msgs / 100 lines)

(Tried to post this once already today so sorry if it comes up twice)
I've been such a happy virtuoso owner for so long i was about due for
some burr replacements. The finest setting is now spitting out
"chunks" of beans along with the fineness. I took it apart, wiped it
down, ran some uncooked rice through it to try and get it to adhere to
the oils, left over bean particles, etc but still getting same result.
Online owner's manual and FAQ page tells me to do what i just did and
consider replacing the burrs (which i'm sure i'm long over due for).
On the parts page of their site they offer the top burr and bottom burr
separately. How do i know which one i need? Might as well get both
right? Just eye-balling it, i can't SEE any worn parts to make me want
to lean towards getting the bottom burr or top. Anyone had any
experience replacing the burrs on the Virtuoso? I called and emailed
tech support for Baratza this morning. Why do i get the feeling it
will take them a while to respond? Might have something to do with the
fact that their answering machine said, "Emailing us is the best way to
contact us." From a customer service standpoint, that doesn't sound
like such a good thing.
Been such a good little grinder, i feel bad the little bugger is sick.
Been a loyal companion in the mornings and all throughout the day,
never complained, just consistently did a great job and never asked for
anything in return. Okay i'm getting a little weird. Maybe this is
kind of what it feels like when your child is sick (If your child were
as awesome as my grinder!) ;)

Hi Michael,
Baratza customer service is second to none. Actually, they're pretty much
way above and beyond in that category. They're a small operation, and their
chief product guru, Kyle Anderson, often has a hand directly in customer
service matters. The initial contact might seem spotty, but you'll get
plenty of attention once you've completed your connection.
If you're replacing burrs, it seems to me you should simply replace the
whole set and not worry about upper and lower. I haven't performed this
operation on my Virtuoso, as I haven't had it long enough yet, but unless
there's a great deal of difficulty in getting the old lower burr out,
replacing the whole pair strikes me as the most sensible way to go.
Good luck, and let us know how it works out!

I don't know why they sell the burrs separately, if you replace them
you should replace them as a set. If you brush the burrs lightly with
your fingers and they do not feel like they could cut you if you
wanted to, they need to be replaced.

Actually your grinder is better than my kids. When your grinder starts
spitting up chunks, you can just replace the parts and good as new. When my
kids start spitting up chunks... well... lets just leave it at that.
