Topic: Independence Kansas Coffee House (9 msgs / 140 lines)
1) From: The Dunaways
I remember someone saying there is a really good coffee place in Independence, Kansas, but I can not for the life of me find where I bookmarked it. Does anyone recall the name of it and know if it is still in business?
Thanks!

I didn't mention Independence, but rather Dearing, just down the road. King's Coffee is the place. Skilled baristas and pies to die for. Live music too.

I found this post. Hope it helps.
It is from a thread called "A Kansas surprise", and was from July 20, 2009.

I was also impressed by Uncle Jack's in Independence, KS (great
wine-by-the-glass list, including suggested menu pairings; microbrews; and a
bistro menu the equal of anything in my up-and-coming Edgewater neighborhood
in Chicago, but 20% cheaper with ample free street parking). And in tiny
Dearing (NW of Coffeyville, SE of Independence), King's Coffee has very good
espresso & espresso drinks (and knowledgeable baristi) and pies and quiches
to die for (sandwiches and pastries not too shabby either).
Peace & song,
Sandy

Don't pass up Dink's BBQ in north Bartlesville, and the Tom Mix Museum!

No, after dinner we went back to our hotel in Coffeyville and brewed up some homeroast. But I think there's an independent coffeehouse just below the KS-OK border in Okemah or Oleta (or whatever that town is). It's the Land That Starbucks Forgot.

Don't forget about PT's in Topeka if your trip takes you that way.
They're Roast mag's "Roaster of the Year" for 2009. They have great
beans and competition baristas.
I went there once or twice a day for most of the two months I worked
in Topeka.
