Topic: Just ordered Mypressi Twist espresso maker (6 msgs / 117 lines)
1) From: Sandy Andina
Took the plunge and ordered the Mypressi Twist portable espresso maker (powered just by NO2 carts, sold at every liquor and cookware shop around here for cream-whipper devices). Looks promising, and much sturdier than that disastrously fragile All-Clad lever device. Only bummer is that if I fly with it I have to buy the cartridges at my destination--you can't carry them aboard, and I think that canisters of gases (is nitrous oxide flammable?) are verboten even in checked baggage. But I mostly drive when I travel, often to small towns that lack even a Charbucks; whereas when I fly it's to a metro area with plenty of good espresso bars (recently, in the hotel I stayed in NYC Halloween weekend had FREE cappuccino--made in a non-superauto by an actual barista--every morning).
Peace & song,
Sandy

Enjoy it, Sandy.
I got a chance to see one in person and talk to a trusted barista who
recommends it, though I haven't tested a shot from one as of yet, and it is
a really solid maker, much more solid then what it looks like on the web.
Let us know how you like it.

So I read this, looked up the MyPressi and thought it was neat.
Showed the ever-indulgent wife.
She thought it was neat.
Should be here in a couple of days.
Sometimes she's the *over*-indulgent wife, but it's hard to complain.

I had ordered mine on November 3rd, but they were backordered. It was supposed to ship by the end of November, but I have not heard anything yet. It's just as well as I can't open it until Christmas ;)
I have been looking around for reviews, and don't see any really good ones. I would like to see a review of the Mypressi vs the Handpresso Domepod. I guess there aren't enough of these in the wild yet to get some good reviews.
Hopefully the shots are good enough to hold me until I can save for that GS3!

I set up a Google alert on this product and most of the hits I got were
marketing blurbs on various blogs, but I did see that intelligentsia coffee
selected this for sale which brought it up in my opinion. I was torn
between the Domepod and the Twist and the need for disposable (but
recyclable) gas cartridges was bothering me a little bit until I realized
that the Domepod only has a 7 g filter basket where the Twist has a
full-sized single, double, and pod basket (I think it's 53 mm).
I was all set to put the Twist on my holiday gift list when a La Peppina
lever espresso machine was listed on eBay this morning that's now mine, so
I'll definitely have to wait a while before considering another espresso
toy.
I had even emailed Mypressi and they offered me a taste test (they're here
in San Jose). Looks to be a quality product, I'm anxious to hear how Home
Roasters like it.
