Topic: Had my first cup of vac pot coffee ever (16 msgs / 299 lines)
1) From: Phil Palmintere
I was in San Francisco overnight on business and took the opportunity to
visit the Blue Bottle with their fancy vac pot system. I had a cup of
YirgaCheffe prepared as I watched -- they did about a 55 second "draw down."
I'm impressed with this method of brewing! As a bonus, I sat at the counter
next to Ronnie Lott, the 49er NFL hall of fame linebacker (although I didn't
bother him). He's a nice guy. It was a great cup of coffee. That makes
for a good day.

I'm surprised no Niners fan has pointed out that Lott played cornerback and
safety, not linebacker. But I nitpick too much.

You all want an interesting experiment. Invite some friends over and serve
the same coffee prep'ed in a Vac Pot, AP, TV, FPm, etc.
Makes for an interesting lesson (at least it did for me)

There was the Great Can/Am Brewer Throw-Down in early 2008. I put it
together in order to make the comparison Joe's speaking of.
Here's a link to the archives:http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/mmsearch.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comYou'll need your password to get in, I think, but the vac pot was the big
winner.
It was very fun and I seem to recall, afterward someone sold their
Technivorm in favor of the vac pot.

Sorry, J.W. made the suggestion, not Joe. In any event, maybe it's time for
The Great Can/Am Brewer Throw-down # 2? After the holidays?
Who's in?

The idea is not to get a 'winner' but to learn how much the same coffee
changes with brewing method.
I heard about the Throw-down, but not on line much anymore.
FYI, I'm in Peoria il, don't know anybody closer tham Brett.

The idea behind the throw-own was to brew, taste and make notes in your own
home and post the results of your own experiment here.
I'll put together another throw-down after the holidays. It's time for
another. More coming soon.

My bad. Now it makes more sense to me -- Seeing him in person, he appeared
to be a normal-sized human being. His bio at the NFL Hall of Fame website
says he's 6'0" and 203 lbs but he seemed more like 5'10" and 180 lbs to me.
Looks can be deceiving. Linebackers of course tend to be much larger.
