Hi guys, new to the list, led here by my friend R. Tuttle. I have a Behmor
I love, and am learning a lot.
One plea- please try to delete the previous posts when responding to a
message unless it is necessary for that post . For instance, this post
responds
to a digest that had 4 short messages, but had about 20 feet (if printed
out) of old posts (for example, "I agree" followed by 3 weeks of posts).
It makes my index finger cramp with all the scrolling! Also, it is hard to
find the actual new post among the rest, and wastes bandwidth on the net.
thanks for listening,
Chris

Chris,
Welcome to the list, I've got a Behmor too and really enjoy roasting (though
it's getting pretty cold in the garage lately and my roast times are out of
wack now because it's now 20 degrees cooler ambient).
I try to delete the previous posts when replying, but I don't have that
option when I use Gmail mobile, it just doesn't show the previous thread to
be able to edit it out. I guess they think the simplified interface is more
usable on a mobile device, but it does present these sorts of problems.

Hi Chris,
We have this discussion every couple of months, and the digest folks do
suffer from this. I started on the digest and got off it quickly for exactly
that reason.
The problem of trimming prior posts will always be with us, for a variety of
reasons. But it's not a big enough problem for enough members of the list to
expect that it will ever get fixed.
The best defensive maneuver is to get off the digest. The way to do this
without polluting your everyday email account is to get a dedicated email
account just for list traffic. That's what I did, and it has worked out very
well for me. It comes at the cost of having to log into and out of a
separate email account, but I reckon that's a lot easier than scrolling
through all that digest text.
Welcome to the list! It's a great community.

Another option is to set up rules or filters to divert list email to a
dedicated folder. I do this with my email client and emails from various
lists all go to their respective folders despite having been sent to a
common email address. No need to log into a separate account either.
