Topic: Guatamala or Raisin (9 msgs / 142 lines)
1) From: Ryan M. Ward
So I am stuck and having a personal crisis here... I can't decide whether I want to roast some Guatamala Antigua to use in my espresso machine for the week, or roast some Raisin Coffee to use in my French Press. I am kind of having a personal crisis here, any suggestions?
Isn't having options terrible? Of course, I could always roast some Sulawesi and Cold Brew it, I still have a pound or two left.... Sulawesi makes great iced coffee if roasted lighter than usually suggested (I stop the roast a little before second crack).

Why choose? Roast both!

'Round these parts, it's still too cold and wet for iced coffee... maybe
we'll get true spring this year in June or July.
But for me, I don't stop pulling espresso shots while I'm drinking coffee
during the week, so you may want to roast both.
I'm almost out of coffee myself, and am trying to decide on a espresso to
roast... Donkey decaf, one of the Workshop Blends, or Liquid Amber? I'll be
starting a new job this Wednesday which probably means more night espresso
shots then morning so the decaf could come in handy.

Well, you could stop drinking coffee while you figure out an answer to your
dilemma. >That< should precipitate a decision.
Hope this helps ;-)

i've been really enjoying some SO shots of Guatemala. I know i've pulled Guat shots before, but don't remember them being this yummy. But like others have said, while i've got beans in the hopper for espresso, i also always have some ready for drip, chemex, or CCD.

Now why didn't I think or Roasting both??!?! or all three? There is a lot of genius on this list, I am glad I asked...
Dilemma solved! (Except now I have to decide whether to make a blend or roast them separately, or roast them separately and then blend the roasted product.... ugh! Decisions....)

roast separately, try them as singles first, then blend if you need to. that way you know what you're blending for. that's my two cents anyway. i try all coffees as SO espressos. i have some standard blends i like. sometimes i wish i paid more attention to my "haphazard" blends. hand full of this, hand full of that, etc. when i find bags that don't have enough to make a full shot and throw them together then find THAT bag later, pull a shot and am bamboozled! i'm not sure if i used that word correctly but have been dying to use it.
