Topic: Broken Rocky (9 msgs / 147 lines)
1) From: Ian Gowen
So I just moved across the country, and my Rocky started flaking out
after I arrived. I'd flip the switch and nothing would happen. At
first, I could give the side of it a good thwack and it would start,
but now it just does nothing. Taking it apart and cleaning it didn't
seem to help either.
I've had it for a few years; is it most likely that my motor burned
out, or could there be
something simple wrong with it that I'm missing?
thanks,
-Ian

Where are you located?
If you're anywhere in the DC area, I'd be happy to look it over for you.

I sold my rocky on ebay earlier this year after finding a steal on a super jolly. when it arrived the buyer could not get it to turn on. thankfully I insured the package free of charge for them and they took it in to get repaired and it was only a loose wire. good luck, hope it's something simple like that. Rocky is built to last so it is doubtful you burned up a motor.

It's probably the switch contacts, that got a little dirt or dust between
them. Or, relay contacts if it has a latching relay to control the motor
power. (likely so if it has a doser with a full-limit switch)
Take your pick- all easy to clean- the on-off switch, the full-limit switch
if it has a doser, or the latching control relay. Where would you get dust
particles in a grinder??
With the machine disconnected from the power, vacuum and brush out all the
electrical parts. Use a computer keyboard vacuum cleaner adapter while you
also flip the switch and manually depress the relay armature. If the motor
has brushes, they might have been right at the wear limit the last time you
ran it.
If it has worn brushes don't play around, replace them now. Save the motor
commutator/ armature, if you can even find a replacement armature.
Cheers, Mabuhay, Iechyd da -RayO, aka Opa!
Let the fun begin.

When my Rocky stopped, I took the top burr out, but it was so tight I had to use a tool to get it unscrewed. At first glance it looked fine, but then I noticed pulverized bean filling the notches that are perpendicular to the threads of the top burr. I cleaned it and it worked fine.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I'm in Pittsburgh, not in DC or LA, so I'm
on my own as far as repairs go. I took it apart to clean it, but
didn't notice anything obviously awry; I'll give it a second look when
I get home and see if I can't figure out what's wrong with it.
