Topic: Behmor Incinerator (11 msgs / 230 lines)
1) From: Bob Holland
Failing to heed the warnings about not leaving your roast unattended, I had
a significant fire in the Behmor yesterday. This was a combination of errors
that resulted in the total incineration of a half pound of beans to glowing
embers. The machine shut down it self and is totally scorched inside with
significant smoke residue. The door gasket is unharmed. My garage
bathroom/roasting room has some heavy smoke remains as well.

I am planning on using "Easy Off" oven cleaner to try to remove the black
residue that didn't budge with Simple Green.

Has anyone had issue with the functioning of the Behmor after a fire? I
realize this was WAY more than a chaff fire. I just hope this wasn't a $300
lesson learned!!

Hi Bob,... sorry to hear about this but it should clean up fine.
You should email Behmor.
They have a procedure that works well for cleanup.
from Joe re: post-fire cleanup:
"...send an email to tech .. we've put together a little
instruction guide to help with bean ignitions...
ask them to send you the "bean ignition" sheet..."
Hope this helps.
Best,
Derek @ Sweetmarias

Easy OFF is caustic and will severely attack the aluminum.

I had my first first (so far only), few months ago. After disassemble some
pieces (glass window and few small pieces), wash it well (with a hose!!),
taking care to not let water into electronics . I dried with some pieces of
fabric, then let dry out for about a week in my garage, it returned to work
perfectly fine.
I'm using it a lot, with no issues.
What I heard at that time from this list, and I should pass it on : WELCOME

Bob,
As someone else said, Easy Off is caustic. Do not use it. Simple Green.
I've fixed a few that have this level of damage. It's a matter of
whether the boards were damaged. If so, I have some spares since you
are local. Give me a ring and we can check it out.

Best thing I know of is OxyClean powder. I use it to clean roaster parts. I soak the parts with OxyClean in hot tap water for about 1 minute.

Bob,

I did the same thing and I cleaned it with Simply Green - a lot of it and a lot of paper towels. It also took a lot of rubbing and believe or not my behmor is still running!!!! I just knew I had ruined it. It was completely black on the inside and the gasket was even rippled. I have some areas now that are not completely shiny and have some black but the gasket returned to it's original form after it cooled. I am doing a roast now. Don't give up on it!

Nancy,
Very nice to know the Behmor can take a lickin or in this case a serious
fire and live to roast again.
Thanks Joe Behm for a machine as hardy as this one.
