Yipee! Finally, a QM3 is! on! its! way!
Now, I have to determine whether to keep or sell the B1600. It's only a year
old.
Well...it is an d$mn fine almond roaster after all. But space is a big
issue.
The IR2 stays here as a backup until it croaks, which can't be far off after
4 yrs.

I've been also browsing for one. Who did you buy it from?

Frank,
I got mine from coffeeshrub.com.
I may need to get some advice from you at first. I hope to get BT probe
installed. Do you know how to do that?

Ivan,
I haven't gotten one yet. I keep checking CoffeeShrub but their web site said for a long time they were out. I just
checked and they have them in stock again.
I e-mailed the manufacturer and asked who distributed in the US. They told me to contact Sweet Marias! I sent an
e-mailto Tom to see if he was going to carry the Quest but haven't heard back yet.

I wonder what the thinking is behind offering the Quest at Coffee Shrub vs
the SM site. Is it a liability issue (like Tom hinted in a previous post)?

My understanding is that it is being considered a shop roaster and shrub is
their commercial site.

Yeah, don't believe it's been UL certified for home use. Definitely don't
see any UL on the label pictured. Oh no, it's not UL certified for home use!
Anyone who has purchased one and is now afraid to use it at home, I'll
kindly alleviate your fears :)

Sorry guys, been busy with work.
Quest is not UL. I think you could make it UL but not without some
serious changes. With it not being insulated it gets serious hot. My
ET probe has measured temps in the 700F range. I have not pointed my
laser surface thermometer at the outside but the cage will burn you.
Make no mistake, DO NOT RUN THIS ROASTER UNSUPERVISED. It can burn
your house down.
Safety stuff aside.
I think you are going to love this roaster. It is what i have always
wanted. A 250g commercial roaster.
The sweet spot is 125g loads. This is where it will act the most
consistent, and provide the best results.
You need to use it in a room where the ambient temp is over 65F. It
is NOT a garage roaster in the winter. I recently built some duct
work to vent mine out the stove venting in my kitchen for cold weather
roasting.
It weighs in at ~20 pounds and is easy to move, unless it is hot then
it will burn you.
With a little work you will figure out how to roast fast, slow, start
slow-end quick, start quick end slow and any profile in between.
For me, the Quest is way better than the Behmor (got one for sale now)
and the Hot Top (had one).
There is a Quest M3 page on Google, ask Apri to let you join.
It is a fun tool and in my opinion considering the market, a steal at $1,20=
0.

Hank....my Quest is out for delivery today.
Frankly I don't think any roaster should be left unattended. I know I didn't my Hottop and it was UL approved.
Unfortunately the only place I can roast is in the garage and the 65F temperature is not available now. However I
did purchase the insulating blanket material that Jim Schulman refers to in his posts on the Quest on HB. Hopefully
it does the trick and allows me to use it in the garage at lower temps.
I have the thermocouple kit from EricS ready to install. It replaces the dial thermometer that comes with
the Quest. One TC reads BT and the other ET.
Thanks for all the information you post. It helps.

Bob,
Get a couple of space heaters around the roaster. The roaster sucks
air from underneath and if the air is not warm it won't get the job
done. Been there, done that.

Hank..makes sense get a feel for the roaster by logging data. I did this with my Hottop in every roast. I only had a BT
probe with it..
I will keep the beans inside before roasting. Good tip.
I appreciate any tips...thanks.

Going to wait for the weather to warm up a bit before I buy mine. I got
spoiled living in Hawaii
all those years and roasting outside. The Behmor was my backup roaster but it
seems to do well enough if I use it indoors when my wife is not home. The
Hot-top is showing it's age and I am convinced I need all new toys for my
new house and coffee room.
