Topic: Gene Cafe: Repair or Parts (6 msgs / 111 lines)
1) From: Jeff Hayden
18 month old Gene Cafe. Moderate use -- 1-2 roasts per average week.
Worked well until now. Turns adequately. Pushes through air - lower volume than my other roasters, but I'm thinking that's probably the normal volume for a Gene Cafe.
Suddenly stopped heating the air. I'm assuming it's the heater assembly, but welcome any ideas there.
Where might I turn for replacement parts -- or even repair if it's cost effective -- for what has been my favorite roaster thus far?
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can offer.
Jeff Hayden

You can call Tim Skaling at Fresh Roast. You're probably in need of a new
heater element which you can replace yourself. Tim's number is 805-5017731.
He's a great guy and will be happy to help.
He'll send directions but here's more to help you out -

If you need more help, contact me of list and I'll do what I can to help you
myself.

Jeff,
A clogged outflow will cause symptoms that look like that. I ran into this a couple years ago. Tom Skaling recommended
I boil the output filter for a few minutes to remove the crud that builds up (an there was a LOT of crud that had built
up). After that mine worked fine again.
If you haven't done that, give it a try and see if it helps.

I had this problem with my Gene Cafe. Tried everything. Turned out I had
overheated it (might have been too close to cooking on the stove) and the
heater element was burnt out. If you take it apart far enough you can see
the black coils. Seems like it might be worth a try to clean them but by
that time I had the replacement heater.

I got a hold of Fresh Beans (Park City, Utah) on Tuesday. I was shocked when the heater arrived today. Tomorrow, I'll clean out the outflow and the vent filters on the bottom, then replace the heater.
I have high expectations the machine will work like new when I'm done.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Arrrgh! "Fresh Beans" is the name of the company... "Fresh Roast" is his
roaster... In any event, It looks like you'll be up and running in no time.
