Topic: Fluke 52 thermometer (7 msgs / 131 lines)

Does anybody know anything about Fluke thermometers? I bought a this dual
unit (Model 52, not the newer style 52-II) from Ebay to use with my QM3.
However, I can't get it to work. It is used, but barely even has a scratch
on it. I powers on perfectly and every button responds, but it just won't
pull up a temperature reading with the k-type TC (which does work in
another unit).
I have tried replacing the battery. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks,
Ivan

Good thought about it being set to default to J-type. The method to
switch types is pretty much invisble, so in case you haven't found it
yet, this link contains everything I know about Fluke 52s:

Hank,
Yes, the unit displays JK in the startup, then defaults to K.
It's odd that such a clean unit won't function.
Thanks,
Ivan

I hope you bought it cheap. Check the repair manual and bypass the
internal reference thermocouple and see what happens.

Or send it back to Fluke for repairs. We have quite a bit of Fluke
equipment on the production line and in the lab. I don't recall
having any of it break. That doesn't sound good.

The only way I have ever seen any John Fluke equipment fail is if the
input limits are grossly exceeded.
