Hi All, I've been exprementing with my Hottop for the past few months, and I want to try and roast some Kopi Luak. Does anyone have any experience with the world's most expensive coffee? Thanks.

Coffee from @$$holes for @$$holes.  Please don't support an industry that=
only produces inferior coffee.  The popularity of Kopi Luwak in recent y=
ears has led the farmers to cage and force feed the civets, completely null=
ifying the novelty of the civet "only selecting the ripest cherries."  No=
w, rather than the civet's nose doing the selecting, the farmer's/cager's h=
and is doing it.  It's a disgusting practice and a disgusting coffee.  =
Save yourself a couple hundreds dollars and buy coffee from Tom that doesn'=
t taste like what you would expect Kopi Luwak to, given where it comes from.

I fully agree with Bryan. Don't waste your money.
Vietnam has its own version called Weasel Coffee. You can buy it at almost every coffee kiosk or stand in Saigon
orHanoi. It's relatively inexpensive because it hasn't gotten the marketing effort that Kopi Luwak has.
High prices don't mean it's good, only that the marketing people got their hands on it.

Bry,
Thank you very much for this very important update on the practice over
there. I will pass this on to all and any interested parties as a warning to
the quality conscience and especially to those who care about the treatment
of wild animals.

What kind of animal will they cage next and force feed coffee cherries?
Living in Sasquatch Country "Skamania county Washington" Only county in the
US with two laws on the books making it a crime to harm the beasts,
my crazy friend want's to plant some of my green beans up on some trails and
see if he can come up with a Sashqwalk coffee to market in our little town
and ride on the old '70's history of sightings here.
What a joker....

cherries.

Tom,
As I sit here roasting coffee and reading this post of yours I realize how
pissed off I now am over this. I want to thank you for the true last word (
with pictures ) on this coffee and what is going on with it at source. Bry,
I thank you as well for your post here on this which might have led Tom to
posting this.
I will print out the picture of the caged civiet's and pass them out to
customers at my shop to discourage any further interest in the commercial
version of this coffee. The message needs to get back to the perpetrators of
this stupid and cruel practice. When I can I will take the message to them
in person.
Thank you Tom for your work and concern for these animals.
Regards,
Joseph

Does human mean putting defenseless animals in cages, forcing them to eat
green coffee beans, then marketing the beans to other humans? In that case,
I don't want to be in the same classification!
I can see that marketing campaign: *We force animals to eat $#@t so we can
make uber expensive @#%t coffee for you to buy! Drink $@#t today!!*
(But then again, that advertising would be a bit too truthful, wouldn't it?)
Ugh.

Can we just say "NO" to Kopi? Can this be a Kopi free list? I'm really
fed up with Kopi posts. Mark Prince on CG gets a new
member/poster/scammer from Indo. area far too often and now just locks
the threads. He is even considering finding a way to screen new posts
in the software. Even if we inform about the caging, poor quality and
scams of kopi with no kopi I wonder if we are still perpetuating the
curiosity. Maybe if a post appears we could just post Tom's link and
leave it at that.

15) From: sci
Every time I hear Kopi Luak (which I have never tried, and never will) I
can't help thinking about the "Bucket List." Jack Nicholson's character,
Edward, is a super wealthy, but desperate and empty soul who drinks Kopi
Luwak because it is the most expensive coffee in the world, and he thinks it
is therefore the best. The coffees in the movie are metaphorical symbols of
each man's life. Edward's life is, well, crap, and that's what he drinks.
I'm so glad the script writers got this right.
Thanks for the picts Tom, worth 1000 words.
