Now that I think of it, It was probably 2003 that I joined this list,
and one of the first home roasters I encountered was miKe [there were
several people named Mike on the list at that time, so to help others
keep the people straight they used names like miKe and Mike (just
plain)]. It's hard to imagine the leap you have made, miKe.

I am way behind in this race. I have been very close to 60 pounds a year for the past six or seven years. Fell behind that pace a little year before last with a few weeks in which I was unable to roast or make coffee because of the encephalitis infection of my brain. Do your best to stay out of hospitals, they won't let you roast coffee there.

miKe,
Sure Glad I don't live in Clark County. I hope you don't have to pay much
to send in a report to air quality folks there. Being your neighbor to the
east, Skamania County, not only do we not have to worry about auto
emissions but the aroma from my roasting stack can be enjoyed by all the
locals. The smoke works like a coffee break signal. Last time I was at your
shop I wanted to drink the cup you made me next to your roaster exhaust to
bring up that smoke note a bit. ;^)
When your exhaust gets too big let me know. I'd be glad to manage one of
your 3 bag roasters over here on the east side. The laws probably still
apply. Just no populous to speak of.

100 pounds is a lot of coffee for personal use - something like 7 or 8 doubles a day.

Subject: [Homeroast] How much did your roast in 2011?

FWIW part of my annual report to the SW Washington Clean Air Agency was
number of pounds roasted last year. Didn't take the time to do the numbers
to the exact pound but something over 16,000. Only about 2,285 batches on
"My Little Pony" (USRC 3k). If it continues as it has the last few months
2012 will be over 20k lb. Far cry from the about 100lb/year previously
roasted strictly for personal use!
Back to bagging, just a little 7 batch 50lb session this afternoon.

If prep method is brewing, 100 lbs would never get me through the year.
I don't pull shot's, strictly brew, french press and vac pot.
I brew at least 3 press pots / day @ 52-54 gr per pot = 156 - 162 gr per
day x 365 = 58,400 gr of roasted / 453.5 = 128 lbs / 0.85 (ave 15% loss to
roasting) = 150lbs for personal use easily plus ave of 2/3 lb per week
given to friends and family and 180 lbs is well within estimates.

I easily roast over 100 pounds per year for personal use. Each weekend, I do 2-4. Not hard at all to go through that much.

I drink only one cup per day, using ~25 g, and a pound lasts me ~ two weeks.
