I had never had a cup of *bucks coffee, but went to their free
tasting for their new blonde a couple weeks ago. The had 3 small
thermoses one with the blonde, one next darker and I guess their
darkest. I poured a tiny sample cup of each to try. Took a taste of
the blonde first, nothing, the second "nothing with noticeable roast
tastes, 3rd nothing with more noticeable roast taste. what remained
was an aftertaste of oak sap and aspirin. I don't know what
proportions they use to brew but for my first *bucks coffees ever it
really surprised me how bland they were. Boring beans. No wonder their
lemmings go bold. An added experience happened yesterday when visiting
the Umass campus. A coffee stand in the campus center had a airpot
with a yirg "city" roast sign on it. I never got to see the beans but
in my book it was fc+at best, and stale .

I wanted to try the *$$ blonde, so I went to one of the dozen or so near my=
house. This store also has a Clover machine, so I got to satisfy my curios=
ity about both (and now I won't have to go back there for another long time=
). I had a "tall" (what they call their smallest cup of brewed coffee) Blon=
de brewed in the Clover. My experience was much like Ed's, that is, there w=
as not much there. It had a little toasted grain flavor, but no origin or v=
arietal character that I could discern. It is a blend, but I didn't ask wha=
t the components are.The best I can say about it is that it didn't taste li=
ke an ash tray. I'd like to try a decent coffee in the Clover machine some =
time, but *$$ is the only place around here that has them, as far as I know.
