I know one thing that has kept me from even reading and responding is
VERY lengthy header that showed up some time ago. And that does
appear to be SM, albeit maybe not on purpose. This is what I get on
every message, that I have to scroll past just to find the actual message:

Kind of a PITA. Pity, I used to really enjoy the list. And google's
'helpful' decision not to send me my own posts just make it not worth
the effort any more.

Eudora is perhaps not the best client to be using these days, but you
can hide any headers you like: http://email.about.com/od/eudoratips/qt/et092705.htmI run many mailing lists, and this one works fine from everything I can
see. Messages come through fast, go through fast, and the headers are
normal.

John,
This is a view that you control on your computer.
What system are you on and what e-mail application. Maybe someone can help identify what you need to change.

John,
I could understand why if I was to see this on every message. It would be
difficult to see the actual message. As has been replied you can change your
settings to avoid this.

OK, I've looked around in my settings, but don't see the control of
headings. I recall it at one point, but don't see it now. The rub
is I find the headers useful in other e-mails, but I only see the
sheer volume of headings from this e-mail list.

John,
Somehow I got the impression you're using Eudora. Go into settings and scroll down to "Boring Headers". You can remove the headings you're not interested in. If you're only seeing the extended headings for this list, then there's something funky about the personality settings for Eudora you use for the list.
After more than 12 years of using Eudora, I just broke off two weeks ago and moved to Apple's Mail and am still struggling with things that were automatic in Eudora but Mail can't do. I couldn't upgrade my OS with Eudora so I had to break away. I eagerly watched MailForge for awhile, but it turned into a disaster. I'm contemplating Gyazmail which has gotten good recommendations from people who loved Eudora.

As far as I know, you have to add TabooHeaders manually in
eudora.ini. There is no easy access to that feature. At least that's
the way it is in my version 7.0.1.9 paid.
