Some years ago there was a roaster on this list who was passionate about improving his results and bombarded us all with questions about how to roast and pull shots. He bought a Giotto, Mazzer, and HotTop, and enlisted help from Les and others to perfect his techniques. Not long after, he became terminally ill and offered his gear for sale on this list - I was fortunate enough to get it all. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him while pulling shots or roasting a batch. I hope we all live on in some way in those whose coffee excellence we've inspired.

Zara -
I'm wondering if that was the same young man I'm thinking of. I can't think
of his name right now, but I think of him often. He actually sent me a BP
machine to help keep track of my (then) extremely high bp.
So many people on this list have been so kind to me... I keep each and
everyone near to my heart. I'll never forget all that's been done for
me- the generosity ofpeople on this list (some, I didn't
even know before their kindnesses reached me!) amazed me and restored my
faith in humanity.
Thanks for sharing this. I lift up my cup of Java Kajumas Organic
Wet-Hulled - also gifted to me, by Peter Z., who is having some health
difficulties & I pray everyday that he is doing well.

I do want to add my two cents to the chorus of gratitude and also send
on my best wishes to all for the new year. I've been both an active
participant and a lurker, but I've always loved this list and so many of
its participants, along with the knowledge its possible to get here.
So, best to all.

Old timers on this list may remember Alfred and his many questions about roasting and brewing as he tried to perfect his techniques. As I remember, Les kindly went to his house and spent a day with him helping him learn to use all his gear to best advantage - has anyone heard from Les or seen a new Thor Tamper in a while? When Alfred got sick and decided to sell everything, Les was also the one who packed it all up and sent it to me. I was fortunate enough to meet Alfred briefly at one of the coffee roasting gatherings we had some years ago in Oregon - I think it was the one at Alchemist John's. There are many wonderful people on this list!
On a slightly different topic, a few weeks ago I had some repairs done to a gas fireplace at my house. I was about to make a latte for myself, so I asked the serviceman if he'd like one too. Today I stopped by the fireplace company to look at some replacement options he recommended. The salesman called him to ask about some specs for my current installation. He didn't remember my name or anything about my fireplace until he remembered the latte which apparently made a big impression.

Thanks for the comments. I was just remembering Alfre the other day. He was
quite a guy.
Wonder who has the stuff...
