Topic: Hottop Control Panels (4 msgs / 77 lines)
1) From: Kevin Lauer
In an effort to stimulate a constructive discussion, I am looking at "downgrading" the control panel on my Hottop from KN-8828P (programmable) to KN8828B. It is my understanding that the "B" version allows in-roast control of the fan speed which seems to be an improvement over the programmable "P" version which allows fan control only when initially programming a profile. Any comments or advice?
Any word on the rumors about a 1lb version of the Hottop?
Thanks-
Kevin

I love my new hottop, but I must admit that I too am frustrated that the
programmable version does not have a fully manual setting, one which would
allow me to "drive" each of the adjustable parameters moment-to-moment.
How difficult would it be to have function buttons allowing immediate
manual override of the settings for temperature, fan speed, and time
remaining?

It's actually a 1.5lb unit & we should be seeing it soon. Photos leaked
out on an Australian website last year. Dual heating elements, manual &
programmable control & a number of other interesting features.
As far as the B version vs the P the B is the one to buy if you want to
have manual control. If you already own a P you can either buy the B front
panel or consider installing one of these:http://www.home-barista.com/home-roasting/tc4-htc-roast-controller-for-hottop-available-t22947.html Other improvements include replacing the rear filter elements with a
stainless computer filter for much improved airflow & installing larger
fins in the drum for much better bean agitation. The roasting section on
Home-Barista.com has lots of good info on the various HT mods.
