Topic: Liquid dripping from HotTop? (6 msgs / 241 lines)
1) From: Gary White
I've been roasting for well over 10 years and this is a first for me. I
recently purchased a HotTop and was on probably my 4th roast when I noticed
a liquid dripping from the front right bottom corner of the roast chamber
(when facing the viewing glass and to the right of the chaff tray) onto the
cooling tray. This was obviously coming from the roasted coffee as it
looked similar to espresso. This roast was my first with the Espresso
Workshop #27 - Los Tumulos that came with the roaster after I had finished
off my supply of a previous Espresso Workshop offering. At first I thought
this was just a fluke but it has happened on both roasts I've made since
then.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could this possibly be due to beans with
a higher water content?
I've roasted many, many different types of beans over the years on an array
of different roasters and I've never seen anything like this.
Thanks,
Gary
P.S. I originally sent this to the old list address. I've since roasted
another batch without the liquid dripping. I'm going to try another batch
shortly.

I had something similar happen once. I opened the machine and found
the inside completely filled with chaff. After a thoriugh cleaning it
never occurred again.

Hi Gary:
I have had, am on my 4th, Hot Top.
I have had one machine that did that but only once or twice. It stopped.
I decided that it was the water content in the beans and ignored it...
if this is a new machine I would call Micheal and tell him and have him
suggest possible reasons.
You could have a flaw in your machine and I would rule that out asap.

Gary,
I have a hottop and have been roasting with it for about 10 years now... I
think I had that once and decided it was condensation. Since it hasn't
happened again, I had pretty much forgotten about it... :-)
Grace and peace,

Hi all,
My original email literally took 7 days to show up on the list (sent on the
10th and showed up on the 17th) so I didn't even realize that anyone had
responded until I checked just now. I'm puzzled as to why that happened and
wondering when this one will show up. I just recently resubscribed to the
list and this was my first post so I'm hoping that future posts aren't
delayed.
Anyway, the dripping hasn't been consistent since I posted. I'm thinking
that it's the water content since it didn't happen with the previous supply
that I had. I'll get to check this when I get some new beans. I'm just
glad that I didn't order my usual 20 lb bag so I'll probably be through this
order rather quickly.
Thanks for all of the responses,
Gary

Hmm ... I never had water come out in my Hottop. Sounds like it could be content related.
