Topic: Gene Cafe questions... (2 msgs / 44 lines)
1) From: Ken Knott
So I see a lot of people running profiles like the following...
5 min at 300
4 min at 435
2 min at 460
482 until first crack
drop to 460 until desired roast is achieved...
Do you actually reach those temps by the end of the time?
For example, I'm getting to 300 by 5 min, but only to about 405 at 9 min, a=
nd 430 ish by 11 min.. and I'm at 447 when I start getting first crack...=

I don't know if my thermometer is off or is my heater is off....
Suggestions?
Thanks!
Ken

My Gene Cafe behaves the same way as does yours.
On another forum, experienced Gene Cafe owners recommend pre-heating the unit for five minutes without beans, then executing an "emergency stop", then quickly add beans (careful - it will be hot) and then proceed. I've tried this a few times and it helps achieve the desired profile.
