Topic: SC/TO option? (4 msgs / 66 lines)
1) From: Scot Murphy
I was thinking of modding another Stir Crazy as a roaster, seeing as I have a TurboOven to still use on top of it, but I found this:
It looks like a Stir Crazy base that would need no modifications. When you look at the thumbnail images, you see that the center is already metal (probably aluminum), obviating the need for a machined pipe end cap and silicone gel. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this. It's for roasting popcorn and nuts, meaning it probably heats up higher for nuts. A TurboOven would be more of an assist than necessarily the main roaster here.
Any ideas from the DIYers on this list?

I would just use the stir crazy as the base, and the turbo oven as the main.

I never did any modifications - but I have a couple of thoughts. First -
I'm not sure if roasting nuts would require a higher heat, as they are
*very* easy to burn when over roasting (the charcoal almonds I refused to
toss were a testament to that). Also, beware of plastic - I roast in an air
popper now... in the beginning, I left the top on, but it started to melt
(that, I *did* toss).
The composition of this might be different, so YMMV.
I think I need to find something that will contain the smoke, though, in
this new apt.
