Topic: Utopia tricks - resetting grind? (3 msgs / 78 lines)
1) From: Timothy A Reed
Hey all,
I just played around with the "tilt trick" for increasing brew time on my
Utopia. I positioned the unit on the edge of my kitchen counter where it
bevels slightly, and it worked great; I had to move it off the bevel
bring the coffee back south. Anyway, I was wondering... those of you who
have tried this, have you had to change the grind setting as a result?
If so, from what to what? I've been using "4" on my Mulino, but I think
I may have to go a little coarser. Any thoughts?

It's really a matter of taste, grind is only one of the factors. For the
same infusion time and amount of beans to water ratio, coarser grind will
yield a weaker cup but with less sediment. I use a moderately fine grind, 4
clicks to the left of the drip icon on the Maestro, 7g per 5oz water,
approximately 2min infusion (6mm "lift", just shy of 1/4", to the back of
the Utopia gives this result for my Utopia). Works well from 25-50oz pots. I
use one click finer for 25oz vs. 50oz pot. Don't have the Mulino anymore,
sold it on eBay after getting the Maestro so can't compare grinds...

Do you recall if you had to change the grind when you started tilting the
unit?
Could you compare your vac grind to a press grind (assuming you have/use
a press)?
