The thermal fuse is connected to the red wire and the heating coil in the 
following picture:http://home.attbi.com/~jbchristy/photos/coffee/hwp/5disass.jpgIt is the shiny metallic cylindrical object. Leave it there, it is for your
protection. It does not affect the heater operation in any way.

My apologies for the blank message.  I had no idea my program had sent
anything.  Just to make it worth the post - I am going to be with a family
that roasts coffee over an open flame.  Now I wish I'd brought my camera!
