The letting of heat out by the crack in the dish is not going to be 
a  problem, per se.  You are blowing hot air out the front anyway.  The 
only problem I could see is that the WB's can put a lot of heat out and if 
you roast load gets to large you may start melting/warping the top.  I have 
heard some on the list remove the entire top plastic and replace it with a 
open ended can.  They roast outside and let the chaf blow (Les I believe, 
among others).
Over all, try it and see if it is a problem (I hate getting that kind of 
advise, but....).I doubt it will be much of one.
