Topic: new beans to try? - El Salvador (2 msgs / 60 lines)

Has anyone else had problems roasting El Salvador in
a fresh roast plus?
I got a pound of this from sweetmarias and everytime
i roast it the chaff clogs the FR+
I have to stop the machine...take off the top and
clear out the chaff.
The chaff seems to come off as one big piece and it
is too big to flow into the chaff collector. So it
builds up and if I don't clear it out it will cause
the roast to stall. This is how i first noticed it.
I was roasting some and noticed it was taking a really
long time to get to first crack...it actually never
got to first crack. So i stopped the machine and took
off the top and it was packed with chaff but none was
inside the collector.

May I add that Tom's El Salvador SHG Santa Adelaida is
just as Tom commented, a real crowd pleaser. Not
exotic but to me it's very balanced and sweet, easy to
drink. It may by my Christmas coffee this year.

Dave, I have roasted El Salvador in my FR+, and as you say the chaff is
heavy, and does clog the chamber, but I have never had the roast to stall,
first crack in 3 min. and finished roast in 4.5 min. (20seconds into 2nd
crack.) I do tilt my FR+ up at about 15 degrees it seems to get better air
flow, and bean movement.
