Topic: Vac pot filters... (3 msgs / 36 lines)

If you want to get all the oils, but may be afraid of a stall and possible
implosion when using a glass rod, might i suggest using a stainless
filter. The only time I had a stall was with a Silex rod in my Hario. I
have one of the Nicro knock-offs, and decided to try that filter in my
glass pots. It works quite well.
I have used it in My Hario and Yama. There is no stall and you get all
those nasty(but tasty) oils...They cost about $6

Angelo,
Where did you get it and how did you keep it in place in the vac pot? Was
the coffee sufficient mass to keep it from moving went he water went north?

I got my pot at a restaurant supply store on NYC's Bowery. There is also a
web site that sells these. I'll send the link off-list.
The filter holds in place with a hook, like the cloth filters. The
size/tension of the chain is adjustable.
I forgot to mention that there are ceramic filters sometimes available on
ebay. I've never used them, so can't recommend them...Maybe someone else,
either here or on alt.coffee, can be more helpful...
Ciao,
Angelo
