This is a little off topic. But for those of you that have any concern about
our sources of green beans read on. As home roasters we are all benefiting
from the depressed price of green coffee beans. Currently we have a wide
selection of coffee beans from all over the world. With the small coffee
farmer experiencing an economic crisis how much longer will these sources
exist? This is a "challenge" to the home roasting community. For every
pound of green beans purchased donate a nickle, dime, quarter or buck to an
organization that assists the farm families that work the coffee fields.
Personally I've choosen CoffeeKids. The extra $1.00/# adds ~5 cents/cup.
The speciality green coffee market may be a relatively small % of the world
wide market. We may be a relatively small % of the speciality green coffee
market. Our impact on the the coffee farming family can be significant.

Here's a strong 'second' for Noel's message. If anyone has the addresses of
reputable organizations that assist the coffee growers and their families,
please email me off-list and share your knowledge.

Right on topic as far as I'm concerned...

Fascinating, as it happens just last night I clicked on the CoffeeKids link
from Sweet Marias and did a bunch of reading. Sounded like some excellent
work being done, well worth supporting, so I did. I like your idea of $1/#
for my future donations...
