Topic: Arabica/robusta?(Was Re: +Yauco Selecto) (2 msgs / 47 lines)

Poor Scot's back in the dog house, but I have to ask
the group-How do you tell, by looking, Arabica beans
from Robusta? The only place I 've seen an
explaination was a big coffee table book by (Ernesto?)
Illy called "The Joy of Coffee" where he says quite
matter of factly that the crease on the flat side of
an arabica bean has a distinct curve, and robustas
have straight creases. Having recieved a gift of some
beans lables PNG robusta I noticed plenty of curved
creases, some straight ones. Illy made some incorrect
mention of Bourbon coffee fruits being bright yellow
(they're not) in the same book, but a large scale
buyer of green beans like that should know how to tell
robusta from arabica. I figure that the beans I got
were misslabled. Who out there can answer this
simple(iI thought) question. How does on tell a
robusta bean from an arabica? Thanks in advance
Charlie
