That's a good question! I'm not sure what happened. Just as a batch of
Brazilian got through first crack, there suddenly was a good bit of smoke
(from the beans, not the machine itself) and the motor went dead. I removed
the beans, which were fine. The motor simply went off and never has come
back on. I've only had the machine this summer and up to now was delighted
with it. I've been very careful, hoping to avoid just this problem, so
over-use or wear can't be the answer.
Oh well. I'll contact the FR folks and see what they suggest. I know that
one batch of Brazilian and that small jar of Monkey Blend aren't going to
last long!

Heating appliances have a over-heat safety switch. Some are thermal discs
which turn back on when they cool. Others, like a fusible link, stay
permanently off. If your FR has one, look for it and replace it. Dan
