I don't know about a CSA consensus but I concluded from 3 week extensive
testing of the SM5k that it's great for Cafe' Crema style coffee (7gr per
4-6oz pull) but went down hill in shot quality as you approached 1oz. Never
could get a decent 20sec + 1oz pull no matter the grind setting. It is a
wonderfully convenient unit for brewing lots of great Cafe' Crema/Americano
style beverages of the same bean/roast. Mediocre if a person likes to vary
the bean greatly or if primarily used for espresso shots. Also, true double
shots are impossible, only back to back singles each ground, auto-tamped and
pulled separately (the 1 or 2 cup button). I can't speak for other models or
makes of super automatics, haven't had the opportunity to play with them...
